Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) councillor Iszuree Ibrahim of PAS has filed an application in the High Court in Penang for judicial review to challenge his removal from all his committee positions in the island’s local council.
In his application for leave, Iszuree named the Penang state executive council, MPPP and the state government as the respondents.
Speaking at a press conference in Kepala Batas today, accompanied by lawyer Mohd Harris, Iszuree said he may file another defamation suit against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng after this.
He said he only wanted to uphold justice and defend his own dignity and that his action had nothing to do with his position in MPPP, since his tenure will expires at the end of this year.
"I hope Pakatan Rakyat will uphold the principle of justice as we preached. Don't say one thing and do another.
"If you (Lim) feel the home minister (Zahid Hamidi) has done injustice to you in the PPS (Voluntary Patrol Unit) issue, by denying your rights to defend and going against the law of nature justice, don't do this to others," said Iszuree.
He was refering to the recent PPS ban which Lim had challenged.
"To be a good leader, you should be a good listener first. I used to argue with my family members to defend Lim, but since they did this to me, I have lost my confidence in him," Iszuree said.
Asked whether his legal action has be consented to by the PAS leadership, Harris said that since Lim could sue Temerloh MP Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi and former PKR candidate Mohd Shamsul could sue PAS President Hadi Awang, why not Iszuree?
"This is not something unduly. You don't need to go back to consult your party to defend your dignity. Furthermore, the action is against the government as a whole, not against any individual," the lawyer said.
